About me

Hi, I’m Natalie – your meditation and mindfulness practitioner. After being diagnosed with follicular lymphoma in 2014, I came to the realisation that my lifestyle needed to change. This led to a deeper journey of self-awareness, as I began searching for and connecting with differing holistic teachers who assisted with my delving into new and different learnings. Inviting meditation and mindfulness into my life has helped me to find a deep, centred and grounded source from within which is a constant to support and lift me throughout all life’s events – whether they be rocky roads or smooth surfaces. Committing to this daily practice has changed my life for the better. I’ve fortunately been in remission for some years now. And after lots of study, my business Alite Mind was born!

I live in Adelaide with my husband, two beautiful adolescent young humans, three exotic parrots and our dog Poppy. I’m a wildlife lover and am especially fascinated by pelicans.

In my private life, practising meditation for over 15 years has enabled me to slow down and smell the roses as they say, as well as embody a deep awareness. In all areas of my life – whether it’s parenting, leading a corporate business, or general day-to-day interactions – I am now more patient, healthy, kind and compassionate to myself as well as those around me.

Why mindfulness meditation?

I’m incredibly passionate about teaching all wonderful humans about the numerous benefits of practising mindfulness and meditation – from reducing feelings of anxiety, overwhelm and stress, to enjoying more calm, clarity and connection.

There’s no one ‘right way’ to meditate. There are many ways, and finding a style that suits you and your lifestyle will make it far more enjoyable and effective. When you commit to even just a few minutes of meditation a day, you’ll see real results in all areas of your life. And when you feel overwhelmed and your nervous system goes into overdrive to fight, flight or freeze (which can compromise your immune system), meditation helps to calm and settle the body, mind and spirit – so you can find a sense of spaciousness and ease from chaotic, anxious thoughts.

Why mindfulness meditation?

A chat with Natalie

Moving through some significant life and health challenges, I found myself searching for something that could help support me to develop a greater connection and balance within. A holistic practitioner first introduced me to meditation over 15 years ago. From there I began to research mindful meditation and its benefits. This has led me on a wondrous educational and emotional building journey, joining several different local meditation groups over the years, attending occasional weekend retreats and also following global inspirational teachers like Tara Brach, Jack Kornfield, Sharon Salzberg and Thich Nhat Hahn amongst others via YouTube and also using apps like Insight Timer and Headspace.

Developing my daily mindful meditation practice has helped me to notice simple presence, be aware of where I am and what I am doing, and not be overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around me. I’ve also become a happier and more balanced person in all areas of my life, and I am filled with gratitude each day for my practice. I am incredibly passionate about sharing the transformative power of meditation, mindfulness and other contemplative practices to those who seek to live and work with calm, balance, focus, clarity, wellbeing, presence, and the full capacity of our rational and intuitive mind.

I’ve felt compelled to share my knowledge and experience for several years now. My decision to become certified with my study through the Australian Centre for Meditation and Mindfulness College was to solidify and build on my understanding and experience with like-minded peers in a supportive and caring environment.

Clients can also feel confident that I have a grounded, professional and solid foundation – and that I facilitate each practice with compassion, supporting their individual journey with heartfelt care, encouragement and validation.

Mindfulness meditation teaches you to pay attention to what’s happening inside and outside of you in the present moment. It’s non-judgemental and greeted with a gentle acceptance. You can begin by simply taking a pause or a breath. With practice, it can also enhance your mental clarity and performance. If you’re searching for a way to feel more relaxed and balanced – or maybe you feel trapped in habits that aren’t serving your relationships at work or at home – mindful meditation can be a way to change these areas by arriving in the present moment with awareness. Mindfulness practice can bring a deeper connection and understanding with ourselves, assist us to be more centred and grounded, create a feeling where we are at home with ourselves and others, and to be comfortable in our own skin.

Our mind is involved in everything we do. It governs our thoughts, emotions, behaviour, perspective and engagement with the world. It also influences our personality, experience, relationships, creativity and happiness. Scientific research has proven that the long-term benefits of meditation are greater self-control, enhanced flexibility, equanimity, improved concentration and mental clarity, emotional intelligence and the ability to relate to others and one’s self with kindness, acceptance and compassion. Looking after my mind is the best investment I have made for my health and wellbeing, for when my mind works well everything within me works well.
